The Township of Mapleton approved their 2023 Operating & Capital Budget at Monday’s meeting with a tax increase per $100,000 of home value at 3.89% or $18.41.

Capital spending in the Township is set to be $7.75 million with a 10-year forecast spending of $80.71 million.

Key discussions prior to its passing was a possible way to mitigate a 7% cost of living pay adjustment being given to staff of the Township.

The reasons justifying the increase were given by Township CAO Manny Baron.

“My fear for the leader of the Administration  is that if we don’t’ follow policy this time is that the disparity between our competition, the people who want our people because we hire the right people, versus what we can pay is getting greater and greater.”

Also noted by CAO Baron was the workload changes over the past few years as responsibilities have downloaded from the Province and others.
