The City of Stratford has terminated the lease with the holder and close the Franklin Drive Garden for the year.
The space has been offered as a community garden to help promote food security and community access to garden space but the City has been made aware of escalating conflict among some members over the last year.
In response the city provided a range of supports including referrals to individual resources, coordinated involved of Social Services and Stratford Police and exploring of alternative governance and management approaches for the garden but a solution where everyone is happy still hasn’t been reached.
The city adds just last week events escalated resulting in emergency services being called to the site with the city making the choice to terminate the lease with the leaseholder and close the garden.
