Saugeen Connects relaunches Summer Student Startup Program

Program provided 41 youth the chance to run 34 businesses in the Region

In 2019, the Saugeen Connects Partnership consisting of Brockton, Hanover, Minto, Wellington North and West Grey, along with the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation launched the Saugeen Student Startup Program.

The program provided 41 youth the chance to run 34 businesses in the Saugeen Region that year.

It was cancelled last year due to the pandemic but is relaunching for 2021.

It will be offered to students in the region in grades 6 to 12 to try self employment during summer holidays in July and August.

Eligible applicants who complete a relaxed business plan can earn $150 to help their business idea get started or expand. If they use social media with the hashtag #saugeenssup and send a final report on the response they can see this double.

Students are also able to participate in 5 workshops that will help them in running their business and for each they attend they receive $20. If they attend all 5 then they will receive a total extra of $150.

Applications are due no later than May 7th at 4:30pm with successful applicants being notified by May 28th.
