The Wellington County Museum and Archives is kicking off a new exhibition created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.
Dubbed Refuge Canada, the exhibition explores Canada’s place in the global refugee crisis as refugees often face fear, dangerous travel and shattered lives to find a safe haven.
The exhibition begins with a powerful premise, No one wants to be a refugee, anyone could become a refugee.
Hailey Johnston, the Curator for the Wellington County Museum and Archives says on display they have a full history of artifacts, dating back to World War II.
“One of the first artifacts someone will see is one of those yellow Stars of David that Jewish residents in Germany were forced to wear during the Second World War and the lead up to. Seeing something like that people have only seen in images it really is hitting people and having an impact.” said Johnston.
Refuge Canada will be on display at the museum until September 14th.
