Pope Francis to Visit Canada in July

Indigenous leaders saying they expect an apology from the Pope on Canadian soil

The Vatican says Pope Francis will make trips to Alberta, Quebec and Nunavut in his visit to Canada in July.

Capital cities of Edmonton, Quebec City and Iqaluit will be the main stops in his visit from July 24th-29th.

The planned visit comes after the Pope’s historic apology for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in the residential school system.

An estimated 150,000 Indigenous children were forced to attend residential schools with more than 60 per cent of them run by the Catholic church.
