Peoples Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier visited Atwood on Saturday rallying support growing Canada’s newest party forward.

PPC Perth-Wellington held the event at the Elma Memorial Community Centre which included breakfast with Max, a chili dinner and a late night social.

Bernier says the Peoples Party offer a unique perspective from other parties, adding the platform won’t change at each election.

“We won’t change our platform at every election, it’s always the same thing. If you believe in our principles, Individual Freedom, Personal Responsibility, Respect and Fairness all of our policies are in line with that. We are doing politics differently” said Bernier.

Bernier says election results do show the party is growing and is hopeful to the future.

“We had 5 per cent at the last election, in this riding (Perth-Wellington) we had almost 10 per cent. I believe the next election will have PPC candidates elected and it will be another step for us.”

Bernier and the Peoples Party have been riding across Canada as Bernier says, to make sure people in Canada know the party exists.

A video has been circulating online recently of a dairy farmer dumping milk due to being over quota which Bernier says his government would change the supply management system.

“For the dairy producer I’m telling them, I’m here for you, I understand your point you want to be sure Canadians are able to have your product and be able to export it. You can count on us, we’ll be there.”

The responses across social media to the video have fired back and forth for those calling for changes to supply management and others saying its up to the farmer to manage their output and if you’re over quota its a management problem, not government adding the system works just fine.
