Mapleton Township Council votes to support Regional Fire Fighter Training Centre Bid

Provincial training centre is closing in favour of regional training model

When one door closes another one opens. This seems to be the case for a Fire Training Centre.

With the Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst scheduled to close in April Mapleton Council voted to endorse a County of Wellington application to open a regional fire training centre closer to home.

The motion was supported unanimously by township council at their February 24th meeting following a report by their Firechief.

The local approach to firefighter training offers benefits such as trainees not losing as much work while undertaking training.

The one feature they won’t be able to match is the cost. Training in the old facility in Gravenhurst only cost $55 per trainee including instruction, lodgings and meals for the week long course.
