Hanover’s Deputy Mayor is throwing his hat in the race for the upcoming June election.

Selwyn Hicks has taken a leave of absence from council to represent the liberal riding for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound starting May 1st.

In a release, officials say while it is not a requirement to leave while campaigning, Hicks made the decision to leave.

Should Hicks be successful in his campaign he will be required to resign from council.

Hicks stating he has made the temporary leave decision as he believes he cannot perform the role of Deputy Mayor to the best of his ability while also directing energy to the election campaign.
