Work has been making good progress on the Music Hall Apartment project in Listowel.
United Way Perth Huron’s Housing Initiative has been putting in the work who have reached their capital campaign goal in under one year, coming off the continued support of the public.
The final stretch of fundraising was hit with a $3000 donation from Dave Johnston and now shovels are in the ground to bring 10 mixed income rental units on Main Street West.
The units will include market rate, workforce and deeply affordable housing.
Kathy Vassilakos, Director of United Housing says while 10 rental units might not sound like much, when you compare its numbers to other towns and cities, its quite the impact.
“If you go by population its 120 in Cambridge, 420ish in London, its 2800 in Toronto. Nobody would ever look at 2800 units of mixed income rental housing in Toronto by a not for profit and say ‘oh that’s nothing'” said Vassilakos.
The project has been widely supported from investment from the community as well as municipal, provincial and federal partners.
