The West Perth Fire Inspector has pegged damages at $800,000 after an early evening fire Tuesday at a large swine barn north of Mitchell.

Crews were called to the barn on Line 42 just west of Highway 23 around 7pm.

All 3 stations from North Perth; Monkton, Atwood and Listowel responded as well as support from Milverton, Sebringville and Seaforth.

There are a total of around 40 firefighters battling the blaze and trying to prevent it from spreading.

In terms of losses, they have estimated that 25 pigs died in the fire mostly from the smoke. Losses may have been greater had some not been moved out earlier in the day.

The Investigation have not found anything to deem the fire suspicious. The investigation remains ongoing.
