The Western Ontario Wardens Caucus has set their sites on tackling housing, mental health and the labour force during the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.

WOWC officials which includes members from Perth and Huron county have advocated for their 3 main goals for the 2023-24 year.

“Our delegations with provincial representatives were very well received, and the Wardens emphasized the unique needs of our rural and small urban communities across Western Ontario,” stated WOWC Chair Glen McNeil.

“Our research and statistics regarding the priorities are clear and well-researched, and allowed us to provide recommendations to the government on the supports required – whether financial or otherwise – that differ greatly from those of our urban counterparts.”

In terms of housing the caucus is looking for more information on Bill 23 and what it will mean for development across the region.

Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act was brought in last year by the Ford government and allows builders waivers or freezes on development charges.
