A carbon monoxide call safely ended with the help of working alarms and quick action in St Marys.
Crews responded to a home where their CO alarms were sounding and upon investigation, firefighters found that furnace intake and exhaust vents were partially blocked after a large amount of snow slid off a neighbours steel roof, creating a three foot snow drift along the side of the home.
While the blockage was only partial, the buildup of snow created a wall causing carbon monoxide to draw back into the house.
Fire Chief Phil West says the outcome could have been very different but the residents were fortunate to have multiple working CO Alarms which likely saved two lives that night.
