The Womens Shelter in Stratford made an appearance at a Special Meeting of Stratford City Council on Wednesday in regards to a financial support request it made in support of an expansion of the facility.
In the requests they asked for development charges, site plan amendment and building permit application fees on the expansion to be waived.
The facility on 270 Freeland Drive currently provides 13 beds to the community.
The expansion would add an additional 6,000 square feet to the facility including 10 bedrooms, 7 washrooms, 3 laundry facilities, playroom, office space, multi-purpose space and kitchenette.
Construction is expected to start in September with it opening next August.
Council voted to support the request by Optimism Place and provide over $82,000 to offset all the fees being incurred by the expansion.
The funding will come from a project-specific grant.
