As we continue to get more snow dropped down on us, its important to remember fire safety both in and outside the house during the season.
Clearing snow and removing ice off your outdoor exhaust piping is extremely important. As Chuck Elison with the Minto Fire Department says a snow and ice covered exhaust can do more than shutdown your furnace.
“Make sure those vents are clear. If they get covered, your furnace isn’t going to work. But you’re also going to have the chance of CO2 and carbon monoxide around the house. Really need to make sure we keep those clean.” said Elison
Clearing off fire hydrants near your property of snow and changing the batteries on smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are also recommended during the winter.
