West Nile Virus Found in Deceased Crow in Grey Bruce

Grey Bruce Public Health has confirmed a deceased crow in the area has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

This marks the first bird to test positive for the virus in Grey Bruce this year.

As of August 2nd no human cases have been reported across the country for 2023.

Grey Bruce Public Health places mosquito traps monthly from May to September in each municipality and so far this year have no identified any positive tests of west nile in mosquito pools.

The risk of contracting West Nile Virus is low but usually the highest during late summer.

In 2021 only 25 human cases of West Nile Virus was reported in Ontario.
