After being laid off last summer, former Wescast employees held a protest on April 25th voicing their fight in over $10 million in payments owed to workers.
On April 1st the temporary layoffs become permanent as it lasted at least 35 weeks over a 52 week period as per the Ontario labor laws.
This termination now entitles them to request severance and termination pay but when employees tried to get these funds the holder of the groups policy told them their benefits could only be issued once their employment was legally terminated.
Unifor Local 4207, the union representing Wescast rallied the former employees standing with them who have sent a letter to the Ontario Director of Employment Standards for intervention.
