Wellington County is renewing a year old request from Wellington North to treat leachate from the Riverstown landfill in Mount Forest.
Leachate is water which percolates through trash which can be managed in three ways.
The first is to continue testing the water to ensure a certain criteria is met and run it through an on site storm water management system.
Some issues were raised by the township including costs, impacts on the reserve capacity at the treatment plant and the impacts of the Saugeen River where treated wastewater is discharged.
Environmental Consultant Darren Dickson says leachate volumes should really decrease in time as the landfill is filled with more waste which absorbs more water.
