Wellington County Receives Funding to Support Those Experiencing Homelessness

Wellington County has receives housing funding from Infrastructure Canada to help address the issues winter weather presents for people experiencing homelessness.

Infrastructure Canada is dishing out top up funding available to communities which aims to help people find a more safer and stable place to stay to respond to an increase demand for services and support for the winter.

In December, the county received $633,318 to use by April 30th.

“Housing and homelessness continue to be a top priority for Canadian municipalities. This generous funding will help the County support individuals who are experiencing or who are at risk of experiencing homelessness in the City of Guelph and Wellington County.” said Warden Andy Lennox

The funding will be used for the county to support individuals in accessing shelters, food banks and community health centres, storage for belongings for 3 months, transportation to home communities as well as for supplies such as clothing, footwear, blankets, personal hygiene items and sleeping bags.
