Wellington County OPP advise on Ice Safety around Waterways

Police say to never go on ice that is less than 4 inches and also advise to keep pets on leashes when walking them near area waterways.

Wellington County OPP has been reminding area residents about ice stability on area waterways. Constable Joshua Cunningham says there are many factors to consider in terms of ice stability.

“Some of the things that will affect that stability is water flow and temperature below the ice. Air temperature, sunshine, water runoff both the flow and the solutions that are added to the ice that may affect its freezing orĀ  melting point. Organic life and decomposition along the ice will also affect the ice.”
