Wellington County has a surplus of nearly $7 million from 2020, mostly from budget adjustments and the influx of cash from upper levels of government.

Ken DeHart, Wellington County treasurer says the surplus totals $6,962,000.

The pandemic played a major role in county operations as well as additional funding provided from both the federal and provincial government.

At a council meeting, council approved to spend $2 million of the surplus to be directed to the tax levy stabilization reserve, 2.35 million transferred to solid waste services capital reserve and 2.6 million for the Roads Capital Reserve to reduce the debt from the Arthur public works garage project.
