Wellington County Council to revisit 2021 budget to reduce tax increase

Council has directed staff to revisit numbers in efforts to half the increase amount

Wellington County Council are sharpening their pencils in efforts to reduce a proposed tax increase before approving the 2021 budget.

The announcement came at a special budget meeting on Monday where treasurer Ken DeHart presided over council with the numbers.

There are projecting currently a 2.5% percent tax increase to support a 4.2 % levy increase for this year.

This would increase the levy to $110 million from $105.6 million in 2020.

A 2.5% tax increase would turn into $16 more per $100,000 thousand dollars in a property owners assessment.

Council directed staff at the meeting to go back to the numbers in effort to bring the tax increase down to 1.25 percent.
