As communities across Canada including locally are adding their own Veterans Crosswalk, the Listowel Legion is hoping the municipality will add one of their own in Listowel.
President and Veterans Officer for the Listowel Legion Tracy Nichol came to council for the request, ideally to have the crosswalk on Wallace near the Cenotaph.
Communities such as Minto, Wellington North and Kincardine are among those with crosswalks.
Nichol says they still need to figure out a price point but knows this is something their veterans would help support.
“The sidewalks on both sides (Elizabeth) would be another thing to think about but I need a price. I know that our 40 strong veterans will work at raising money too.” said Nichol.
Council was well in support to add a crosswalk who for now have pushed for staff to work with the Legion to determine costs and other matters such as current construction and a location to get a crosswalk in town.
Councilor Marc Noordam was the lone vote against citing the precedent this could set with more organizations who would want custom sidewalks.
