The Upper Grand District School Board is facing a capacity issue across several schools by the year 2030.

The school boards Long Term Accommodation Plan shows its clear something will be needed to make way for the projected population growth over the next 8 years.

Areas such as Wellington North are expecting higher than historical growth with Drayton Heights and Palmerston Public School also to be over utilized.

Ruchika Angrish, Manager of Planning for the School Board shared with Wellington North council that especially in rural settings, busing will become more in demand which will become more costly.

“Transportation is one of the key things when it comes down to some of the rural schools which are not walkable communities and that is going to continue to grow. Again it comes back to one thing and it’s cost resources” said Angrish.

The last accommodation plan was done in 2018. The current next steps for the plan will continue this summer for public engagement with a final report for school trustees to delivered in October.
