Turtle Season Begins Across UTRCA

It’s turtle season, a time when turtles start to leave wetlands, rivers and streams looking for places to lay eggs.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says some turtles end up making nests in unsafe locations putting them at risk to predators, vehicles and flooding but with the Southern Ontario At Risk Reptiles team, these high risk nests are kept safe.

The UTRCA’s SOARR team collects the nests for artificial incubation and releases the hatchlings back into the wild.

Anyone who spots a turtle nest in a risky location is urged to report them from the Thames river website.
