The township of Mapleton is looking to the province for help in the bill of Mapleton’s water tower upgrade in Drayton.
While the original cost of the upgrade was slotted at $4 million. The township awarded Landmark Structure Co a $6.1 million contract based on the increase of building materials due to the pandemic.
Staff will be looking for a $2.9 million loan from Infrastructure Ontario. Council will now have to vote on go ahead with the loan or finding an alternative way to pay for the water tower costs.
Should council not go with a loan application, the township will look towards increasing development fees, revising the capital plan and looking for other grants as they are made available.
