February 4th marks World Cancer Day. It is a day where we all aim to raise the global attention and inspire action for the elimination of cancer as a disease.

The Canadian Cancer Society said in their statement that as the pandemic enters it’s third year, those facing cancer are still experiencing delays in diagnosis and treatment and continue to struggle with feelings of anxiety, loneliness and isolation.

They add that the delays are having life threatening consequences saying one recent study is showing just a 4 week delay in cancer treatment increases the risk of death by 10%.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson took to social media today to say that she is thinking of the amazingly brave people who have fought or are fighting cancer. She adds that today serves as a reminder that we need to listen to their perspective and let those lived experiences guide our actions.
