Three Stratford Swans Dead Likely from H5N1 Virus

Three of Stratford’s swans have died over the weekend after it was reported they were showing sings of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, better known as H5N1.

City officials shared the news when they found one swan dead in the Avon River on Saturday.

Two more were found to look ill with one dying on Sunday and another on Monday.

While results have yet to be confirmed, an avian pathologist from the University of Guelph’s Animal Health Lab says the bird flu was the most likely cause of death.

The flu has impacted the province has a whole which has seen around 560,000 birds affected on 28 farms
