Officials say Ontario has thousands of AstraZeneca vaccines which will expire on Monday but are still undergoing quality checks before they can be sent out to pharmacies or doctors offices.
Around 12,000 doses are expected to be cleared Friday and sent out while others, also expiring Monday are still being reviewed.
A spokeswoman for Health Minister Christine Elliot says over 26,000 doses were sent out on Thursday
The province is not administering the AstraZeneca vaccine as a first dose, only providing it as the 2nd shot for the 1 million in Ontario who took AstraZeneca as their 1st dose.
Ontario stopped giving out first doses after it was linked to an increased risk of a rare blood clotting disorder.
