This week is National Safe Boating Week to Raise Awareness of Boating Safety

OPP West Region reminds boaters that out of the 56 drownings in OPP patrolled waters last year only 4 victims were wearing life jackets.

The OPP West Region took to social media to remind residents of Boating Safety as part of this week being National Safe Boating Week.

They advise that of the 56 people who drowned in OPP policed waters only 4 victims were wearing lifejackets. They also offered other tips on boating safety through the Canadian Safe Boating Council website at csbc.ca.

The tips besides wearing a lifejacket included boating sober, taking a boating course, being preparing with you and your vessel and being cold water safe.

National Safe Boating Week runs until tomorrow.
