The Local Community Food Centre, a nonprofit supporting those in need is calling on the province to double the Ontario Disability Support Program payments.
In an open letter to Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae, The Local says ODSP payments are well below the poverty line.
The group adds payments are almost taken up right away to pay for rent for a bachelor apartment and incremental increases from the province do not help those with disabilities escape poverty.
The letter requests Rae to share their concerns with the Premier and any appropriate Ministers.
