A group of Ontario teachers unions are calling on the provincial government to start offering free menstrual products in all public funded schools.

The group, led by the Toronto Youth Cabinet called on Education Minister Stephen Lecce in an open letter.

The Waterloo District School Board has already taken action on their own, but the group still wants the expansion to all 72 school boards in Ontario.

A spokeswoman for Lecce says the ministry is aware the lack of products available, especially for low income families results in higher stress for students, adding they remain committed to finding a solution to help girls and young women.
