Sunday gun hunting in Minto is getting the green light.

Council approved a motion to permit gun hunting on Sundays in town following Jill Machan and her family speaking to council on the proposal who shared her families story and their love for hunting for sport, sustenance and the love of nature.

Mark Ryckman, Manager of Policy at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters says there are many benefits for allowing Sunday gun hunting.

“Specifically hunting can help with controlling crop and livestock predation, reduce the number of wildlife vehicle collisions and generate revenue for fish and wildlife in the province.” Ryckman

Ryckman adds we no longer live in a Monday-Friday world with Sunday gun hunting being viewed as an attractive destinations for hunters.

Hunting in Ontario generates $1.5 billion in annual economic activity. A staff report will come at the next meeting to allow Sunday gun hunting.
