The country’s largest federal public service union says if a deal can’t be reached by 9pm Tuesday night, strike action comes on Wednesday.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada says around 155,000 employees are prepared to walk off the job which will include 35,000 workers from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Contract negotiations between the union and Treasury Board has been ongoing with the biggest point in talks being around pay increases.

The union has called for higher pay to keep up with the cost of living and inflation.

The government has offered a near 2 per cent wage increase each year over a five year period but the union is pushing for annual raises of 4.5 per cent.
