Stratford council has awarded an almost $2.5 million contract for the removal of the asbestos contaminated roof over a chunk of the old Grand Trunk Railway to Kitchener’s Gateman-Milloy Inc.

This is in part of the effort to redevelop the building and surrounding property into a community hub.

The project is expected to be completed between January and June of 2022 with work involved including the removal of the leaking roof and storage of historic skylights, removing and storing original wooden roof planks and to remove all asbestos containing felt and tar roofing.

A timeline also been approved by council in 2023 at the Cooper Site as part of the Grand Trunk Community Hub transformation.
