The Stratford Fire Department is reminding the public of open air burning in public spaces is not allowed in the city.
This applies to the burning of combustible waste, garbage and other refuse.
A recreational fire held in an authorized fire pit or container on private property doesn’t need a permit but it does have its own regulations.
The fire department says open air fires can create multiple issues such as injury or death from an uncontrolled spread, damage to property, exposure to smoke and increased risk to public safety.
