Ontario’s Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Lisa MacLeod announced today that $24 million dollars will be dispersed to 140 arts organizations in a one time cash infusion into the industry.
The Stratford Festival will receive $1.8 million, the Stratford Summer Music Festival will get $42,883. Artists and cultural creators will receive $1 million dollars as part of the support for the arts during the pandemic.
The Stratford Festival Executive Director Anita Gaffney says that they are extremely grateful for the Provincial Government being responsive to their needs. She continues that the loss of the 2020 season would have brought in $70 million dollars in revenue and the infusion will help them reimage themselves this summer and build back for the future.
