A Stratford truck and trailer repair shop has been fined after a workplace injury in April.

Humphrey Fleet Service has been fined $55,000 after a worker was in the process of removing and replacing a rear light assembly on a customers trailer in a repair bay.

The worker was replacing a seal using a grinder when a piece of the wire was ejected and injured the worker who was not wearing eye protection at the time.

An investigation from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development found Humphrey Fleet Service employed several methods to remind workers to wear eye protection but none were documented or enforced.

The company failed to ensure the worker was wearing eye protection as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
