Stratford’s last coronation royal oak tree is in jeopardy as its health begins to decline.

Perth County staff and local arborists are working to help save the tree which is located in the front of the Perth County Courthouse.

The tree is suffering what is commonly known as oak wilt and staff and arborists have been working over the past 2 years to save it.

The acorns and saplings from the tree are said to have come from the New Forest, a royal property in England. Some even saying a few of them have come from the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Staff will continue to monitor the tree’s condition and have arborists prune and remove deadwood as necessary to extend its life which is estimated to cost $2000 annually.
