After years of a discussion and a very narrow public referendum vote, South Bruce will not be the host of the Nuclear Waste Management Organizations Deep Geological Repository for used nuclear fuel.

The NWMO has selected Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace as the host communities.

Laurie Swami, NWMO President and CEO says this project will solve an environmental issue and support Canada’s climate change goals with a decision made by consent based siting process.

South Bruce residents voted in a referendum with 51.2 per cent voting in favour to be a willing host.
