A sacred fire is set to stay lit for more than eight hours on Thursday for the first day across the country for National Truth and Reconciliation.
Anne Day will light the fire in St Marys at the north end of Milt Dunnel Field starting at 7:30am and will stay alight until 5pm.
Four medicines sacred to many Indigenous cultures will be available to burn during to sacred fire. Tobacco to the east of the flames, orange ribbons to mark a path towards sweet grass to the south, sage to the west and cedar to north.
On top of the fire, Indigenous crafts will be available by donation to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
An orange flag will be raised at town buildings in St Marys including the words Every Child Matters.
