Rural farm owners who were hoping to severe a surplus dwelling from the accompanying agricultural land received some good news from Perth County today.
Council approved a change to the official plan which will add more flexibility to agricultural land owners who wish to severe their property.
The change makes the rules around what can and cannot be severed open to new possibilities such as the entire property not needing to be in Perth County, new relaxed accepted ownership structures possible and more.
Some things haven’t changed including the size of the lot to be severed. They still must meet minimum sizing based on the proposed usages for things such as water and septic servicing.
Also not changing is the prohibition of livestock farms for commercial purposes on severed properties although it is possible to have it considered if not for business. This includes those looking to use the space for things such as home based non-agricultural business.
