Rothsay, a company that provides animal by-product collection, processing and feed ingredient manufacturing in it’s Moorfield facility, has found support partly in it’s appeal of a recent ministerial order.

The company is currently in the process of appealing new environmental compliance conditions on it’s operations that add new limits on odour emissions that may not be able to be achieved consistently. This may result in interruptions or reductions in output at the Moorfield plant.

The head company of Rothsay, Darling International Canada, has filed an appeal of the Director’s Order which is currently pending before the tribunal.

This action has received requests of letter of support for the operation from the local municipalities benefiting at least in terms of employment, economic impact and direct and indirect impacts on the environment.

Of the three municipalities requested to send letters of support; Wellington North & Minto have passed resolutions of support and provided modified letters of support pulling back on some aspects of the facilities that they felt weren’t proper for municipal governments to take a position on.

Mapleton hasn’t had a council meeting since receiving the request. They are expected to deal with the matter at their next regular meeting.
