Province announces Investment in Special Education Needs

The Priorities and Partnerships Funding Covid-19 Equity Supports provide $150,000 to Down Syndrome Association of Ontario, $100,000 to the Child Development Institute and $25,000 to Children at Risk for program for children with autism.

The Provincial Government announced new investments in special education needs yesterday that they say address the impacts of learning disruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Priorities and Partnerships Funding Covid-19 Equity Supports provide $150,000 to Down Syndrome Association of Ontario create digital and print content to support parents, guardians and caregivers as their child with down syndrome transitions through the school system.

It also provides $100,000 to the Child Development Institute to implement the Stop Now and Plan program and Early Assessment Risk List framework for children with behaviour issues.

And finally it provides $25,000 to Children at Risk for program for children with autism to help develop their behavioural, communications and social skills.

The government also announced that they are expanding the summer learning program this year to include $10 million in funding for programs for students with special education needs.
