It was a discussion of COVID-19 mandates, standing against the Liberals, pro-choice vs pro-life in the Conservative leadership debate.

Roman Baber, Jean Charest, Pierre Poilievre, Scott Aitchison and Leslyn Lewis all took part in the debate with Patrick Brown absent at the event.

While Charest, Poilievre and Lewis took multiple shots at one another such as Poilievre questioning Charest over his past work with telecom giant Huawei, Lewis fired at Poilievre regarding stances on abortion adding he has been avoiding questions after the draft of a U.S Supreme Court decision which would overturn Roe V Wade which was leaked.

As bickering continued, Aitchison put it simple, it’s hard to put current trust in one other as a Conservative party over the current arguing.

“Every time I hear a Conservative talk about some conspiracy theory I realize there goes another group of swing voters in the GTA who won’t come our way. All we do is yell and scream at each other. Here we are, calling each other names. What Canadian will trust this lot? We have to do better and that’s how we win elections” said Aitchison

This was pushed back from both Lewis and Baber. Aitchison responded saying he did not call anyone on the debate stage a conspiracy theorist.

Despite a heated debate for leadership, most appeared unified to share the same goal to lead the party and stand for Conservatives in the next federal election.

The Conservative leadership vote will take place in September.
