Pettapiece Pays Tribute at North Perth Fire Station

March 17th 2022 marks 11 years since the tragedy which claimed the lives of two volunteer firefighters

It was 11 years ago, volunteer firefighters Ken Rea and Ray Walter lost their lives while battling a blaze in Listowel.

Both had went inside the dollar store fire to search for anyone who may have been trapped inside when part of the building caved in.

Randy Pettapiece who was at the North Perth Fire Station earlier this morning says its communities like North Perth with a volunteer firefighter core which hits home.

“My son is a firefighter in Monkton. He’s been on that department for 10 or 15 years now. They go into some situations that you and I might have pause to do. But they go in there, they know the risks and they try to fight the fires as best they can.” said Pettapiece

Councilor Neil Anstett added they are very fortunate to have their volunteer firefighter base, saying its the community of volunteers who shine.

Randy Pettapiece presented families of the victims of the 2011 tragedy with signed copies of the updated building codes.
