The Perth East West Perth Fire Department shared an educational video this afternoon as part of Fire Prevention Week this week.
In the clip they say to never try to put out a cooking oil fire with water.
They advise that this will cause the fire to spread quickly.
They say to instead cover the pot or pan with a tight lid or get out and call 911.
They close by saying while cooking stay in the kitchen, look where you cook and watch what you heat.
The Ontario Fire Marshal says the province is on track to pass the number of fire related deaths from last year.
The Province reported 124 fire deaths in 2021, one of the worst years on record.
Great presentation from your @PEFD_WPFD at the @WestPerthON #FirePreventionWeek open house.
Just a little bit of water mixed with burning oil turns into a really big problem, quickly.
