OPP are warning residents to never give remote access to your computer after a Perth East resident has fallen victim to a gift card scam.
On July 12th at 6:28pm, police investigated a fraud case after an elderly resident reported they had been the victim of a Microsoft computer scam.
The victim was contacted by someone claiming fraudulent charges were made by her computer and to remove them, $4000 in Apple gift cards were needed to remove the charges.
Computer users are reminded that, unless you initiate the call, do not allow anyone access to your computer.
Don’t give out personal, banking or credit card information to anyone unless you are sure of whom you are dealing with.
