Perth East council has supported an application by a local company to Ontario’s municipal affairs minister for a minister zoning order.
The order will allow for the development of a proposed industrial park near Milverton.
Councilors voted to support Percon Development Inc application for an MZO to approve a draft plan to rezone a 35 hectare parcel of farmland south of Milverton to put in a new industrial park without any need to request zoning amendments through Perth County.
Agriculture groups have been strongly against this decision, Sara Wood President of the Perth County Federation of Agriculture saying making MZO’s a routine thing is disturbing.
Perth East Mayor Rhonda Ehgoetz saying she understands the concern to give up farmland but adding Perth East needs an industrial park.
