On August 22nd, Perth County OPP received reports of another “sextortion” scam.
Sextorion is a form of extortion where a user blackmails another with the threat of publishing or sharing intimate images or videos unless the victim meets their demands.
The adult victim was communicating with an unknown person over social media with the suspect sending an intimate image to the victim and requesting one in return.
After the victim complied, the suspect then threatened to distributive e the images of the victim publicly if they did not send $500.
The victim contacted police with no money lost.
OPP are requesting residents to follow safe internet practices and to not engage in conversations with strangers or share intimate images online.
