Perth County OPP are joining other provincial police groups in implemented the CAMSAFE program, helping reducing times for officers to spend finding security footage during investigations.
CAMSAFE is a program geared at a creating a database of residential and commercial security cameras to act as a resource for police.
When police use the program they will get a map of the local area and use registered addresses to view details and get contact information of the property owner.
Police still must make a request with the owner to access footage.
Residents who are interested are only required to provide basic contact info and camera location but information such as where the camera faces can also be added.
Police using security footage to locate suspects has been a valuable tool locally, it was with reviewing footage which led to arrests against 4 youth causing over $100,000 in damage in Listowel.
